So, sorry for the delay. But I wanted to make sure that I gave everyone enough time to make sure that everything is right. Then you know me….got an opinion on anything. Shutting down the government left me cold. Look at all the major scientific work that just had to be put on hold….some of it irreplaceable.
The first story for this week is episode 8 of Erin Bassett’s Clockwork, expect your fair share of weirdness in this episode.
Next I spend a moment reviewing the newest Star Trek movie Into the Darkness. Very interesting movie and some very interesting topics to talk about.
And to finish the afternoon off, part 4 of Dean Giles, and yes the warning is in place for this episode as well.
Thanks for listening!

Erin Bassett’s Clockwork
I am excited about this week on episode 339 of Beam Me Up.
This week, for a taste of classic science fiction, I start off with part one of a libravox recording of Poul Anderson’s Call Me Joe. A great work on telepresence from a master author.
Earth Sky this week speaks about Jovian trojan asteroids, which are very strange bodies!
Sandy it seems did more damage to some irreplacable objects!
Prothetic devices were big news in the past week. First is the Bebionic3 prosthetic hand which is a remarkably accurate prothetic hand! And the gent who sat a record by climbing the Willis 103 floors? What makes it record breaking is that he did it while wearing an electric powered prosthetic leg! Leg tech has lagged behind that of hand and arms, but this development advances the tech in several well deserved areas!
Fox’s series Fringe is ending it’s run in January of 2013.
Apple and Microsoft have been granted patents that border on outright foolish to “how can this NOT be illegal?!!!” I spend a few moment covering some of this news that is listed on the blog.
Then to take a short break, I do Star Trek Trivia!!!!
Is math painful? For some it may be!
And finally! Erin Bassett’s Clockwork episode 7
That is it for Beam Me Up #339, I think you will have as much fun listening as I spent this weekend doing it!

Quick episode this week…everything moves fast. I start with a new feature I am trying out, each week I will ask a couple of Star Trek trivia questions. This week I answer last week’s question and start the ball rolling once more. You don’t have to DO anything, But if you want to write your answers to me at the Beam Me Up mail box address is firstname.lastname@example.org
Up Next is our first story of the afternoon Clockwork episode #6 by Erin Bassett and things are getting IN TER RESTING!
From the first story, I got to an article on Earth-Sky speculating that there is such a thing as environmental evolution? And From the Beam Me Up blog:
Space X’s Dragon docks with the ISS, researchers have succeeded in taking skin cells and transforming them into beating heart tissue, I list a short list of the 2011 Nebula Awards winners and A nineteen year old college student has invented a way to take advantage of the Casimir-polder force!
Finally I play CEO a story of self discovery in the oddest of places by Ed McKeown.

Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff
Here is Beam Me Up, episode 310 ready to go! Not long now before the program will be starting it’s seventh year next month.
As you have or will soon find out, I was not too terribly motivated today to use decorum during the program. Some weekends I am not all that interested in towing any kind of line and so any chance I got to just be foolish. Not many instances presented however there were a few. Case in point I found an opening number from the band Music Fog, which is comprised of Eric Brace and Peter Cooper entertain us with with the antics of an elderly lady who in a moment of indiscretion in her youth opted to get a tattoo. Music Fog’s ditty is titled “Grandma’s Batman Tattoo”
The first story this week is very anticipated continuation of Erin Bassett’s Clock-Work series. This week we are treated to episode 5. The classroom continues to spiral into utter chaos. In this week’s episode something malevolent has manifested itself and is violently attacking whoever it can, but just what it is belies all defination.
Next, from the blog, As of Now – Astronomers Have No Idea What Causes Cosmic Rays or for that matter even where they come from. Next – Is Freeman Dyson’s vision possible with the tech we have today? Some scientists believe that we do, and should start as soon as possible.
There is plenty more on the blog, like an excellent short SF film and Discoveries last flight, check them out as well.
Last story of the afternoon, the conclusion to Maya Bohnhoff’s If it ain’t broke…….
Very full hour indeed!
