Here we go with another installment of Beam Me Up.  This is episode 396.

The first thing I play today is a track off John Aneilo’s newest album Walk the Fire, and wow, does he have a winner here.  The cut I play is “The Ferryman” and this song hits you where you live.

Next is a short piece called “The Loaner” Dave Rigby.

I spend a bit of time on Twilight zone trivia

Then from the Beam Me Up blog: Opportunity Rover celebrates it’s 10th anniversary on Mars this year.  The Sun may not bake the Earth into a cinder as soon as we thought…….How was the Milky Way galaxy formed?  I close this week with episode 24 of “The Dark Inspectre Series” by Jason Kahn.

All in all, a good program this week.  I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for listening.

And here we are the last episode of Beam Me Up for 2013.  I think, considering, that the program went well this year.  But back to what goes on with this program.

I start with one of my favorite pieces of anime music.  The Flame which is the opening music for Requiem for the Darkness.

Then Phil joins me as we honestly started to do Star Trek trivia but got off track as we found that many stars of Star Trek went on to star on Twilight Zone which I really have a soft spot for.  The episode we got off track on was TWO which was I think episode 66 staring Elizabeth Montgomery and Charles Bronson as two soldiers from opposite sides of the conflict.  One of my favs also. Then Terror at 20 thousand feet staring William Shatner which gave me nightmares for years.  lol  and we talk about some of the other episodes we enjoyed.

Then a new episode of the Dark Inspectre series…episode 23.  Things are not looking good for inspector Jack Garrett.

I then review the Will and Cypher Smith in their latest movie After Earth.

From the blog, new evac units that is truly something out of Terminator!

And finally part one of A Wondrous Gift by Doug Turnbull.

Episode 387 of Beam Me Up turned out better than I expected!  After an intro and short music interlude,  I do some interesting Star Trek trivia and some interesting trivia it was indeed.
Then something really exciting, I get back on track with a return to Jason Kahn and his Dark Inspectre series and inspector Jack Garrett.  This month episode 22.  I am so glad to get this series started again.
Before I play the last story of the afternoon, I spend some time at the blog with this week’s news.
First I review the new Superman: Man of Steel.   I think I hit the nail on the head with this one.  But you judge.   A really unusual handling of the movie Bladerunner.   NASA really wants to get a system in place to transport astronauts to the ISS.  China’s super computer is still the fastest computer out there again.
The final story this week is part one of Games by Kathyrn Maclean from Galaxy magazine.

Beam Me Up episode 371 humps along fairly well, so I guess there is some entertainment value!

After a quick musical interlude, it is time for episode 21 of  Jason Kahn’s Dark InSpectre series.  Inspector Jack continues to track an extremely dangerous killer.

I move on to Star Trek Triva.  I have a few of Mudd’s Women questions left so those and a few others make up this portion.

From the BMU blog Kallamis again comes through with his weekend review.  Covered are the newest crop of astronaut trainees, mold on the ISS? Mars had an oxygen rich armosphere?  Looking ahead to the newest Riddic movie and reviewers are going hard on the new Man of Steel movie, Logan’s Run movie still seems to be in limbo, Is China hiding the proof that aliens are real?!!!

And I end with the first part of Edward McKeown’s story In the Mourning.

Thanks for listening….

I lead off this week’s episode, episode 367, by doing a short memorial for Heinrich Rohrer Father of the Scanning Tunneling Microscope.

I follow this with a new episode of in Plain Sight episode 20 from Jason Kahn. This week our detective Jack Garrett falls a bit further down the rabbit hole and finds information can come from the most unlikely of sources.

In science…I start with Earth Sky talking about the possibility of intelligent life in the Milky-Way and how we are looking for it.

Next I read the high lights of Kallamis’ weekly run-down which goes from honoring Sally Ride to food replicators…

Oh and I finally have time for some Star Trek Trivia!

Fredrick Doyle also died recently. Doyle was instrumental in developing some of the most sophisticated optics and camera systems for the Apollo era moon missions as well as work for the CIA.

I review the animated feature: Rise of the Guardians

Finally I play chapter five of Fritz Leiber’s No Great Magic

Episode 352 for February 9th 2013.

This week, everything ran a bit late, I will or course blame it on the weather.

This week’s stories are part one of Doug Turnbull’s Colonial Scout and I start with episode 17 of Jason Kahn’s Dark InSpectre series, In Plain Sight. Our favorite physic detective continues to investigate gruesome murders in some of New Eden’s most dangerous places. Where people and specters can be witness and victim alike!

I didn’t get a chance to do articles from the Earth Sky web site so this week I make up with some of the best news in science for the week.

Then it is over to the BMU blog at wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com.

First off the blog is a review of the motion comic which is a low rez low frame rate animation type. The comic in question though is The Astonishing X-Men Unstoppable which pits the x-men against beings from Breakworld bent on destroying Earth. These started out as comic book arcs written by Josh Wedon. Who, when it came time to port the comic to dvd, was joined by illustrator John Cassaday. I break down what was interesting to me and what was good about the format.

We have heard of Jumping the Shark, but have you heard of a Bogosity Generator? Coined by author Rudy Rucker’s site, what is a bogosity generator and why is it used so heavily in science fiction or fantasy?

On the very near event horizon for tech is a very interesting “film” speaker. Quite literally a speaker that is little more than a thin film of plastic type gel that can be rolled, folded, all but spindled and mutilated and still make wonderfully high fidelity music and sound.

I say my final goodbyes to the wonderfully warped show Fringe.

Even though the government has given up on the idea, supporters of building the SW Death Star will not be deterred. They are going to ask for donations through kickstarter! To the tune of 21 million and that for plans only no real building….that will take MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH more.

I start the ball rolling on tech myths. A few that make you just say…huh? But yeah…the things people believe to be true.

The closing story is part one of Doug Turnbull’s Colonial Scout which deals with a fairly normal slice of life but the twist is that it’s a Boy Scout over night and the environment is Mars. The thing to remember though that what gives the average scout here on Earth, a scrape or bruise would be life threatening on Mars….

That’s the week! Enjoy!

Our first offering this week on BMU I play The robot is broken by Calieb Onion which turns our to be a melancholy piece. Next I start doing Star Trek Trivia and travel straight into Jason Kahn’s moody Physic detective yarn on New Eaden call In Plain sight, this week episode 16.

Next Earth Sky, this week I have about about 5 articles from Mars moons to spider brains.

The Movie Looper is the next movie I review.

did you hear the one about Schrodinger and Heisenberg, its funny …trust me!

Sometime I do things not thinking ahead. I found a film that was produced by folks absolutely sure the moon landing had been faked! We all had great fun tearing into this gem.

Oh did you hear about the original Batmobile, driven by that iconic and campy 1960s Batman – sold at auction? You won’t believe how much!

Since the live show was pretty mangled over the past few weeks.  I decided to end with a brand new story by a brand new author!  This weeks last story is Epilog by Julie Wornan. Julie and her particularly unique form of fiction are amazing and entertaining.

I came out of the story with a few minutes, so I returned to the blog with an article that I guess had been making the rounds on various websites. It seems that a British daily reported that a Harvard professor was looking for a woman to host a cloned Neanderthal!

And Deep Space Industries is convinced that they have what it takes to mine the asteroids for precious minerals for a variety of projects. I give you the run down and some links of interest!

Finally  Kallamis put together a file of insults that all of us that watched the 60s Lost in Space remember Dr. Smith who was forever zinging the robot with the most outragious insults. It all but made the show! I said that listeners owe it to themselves to head over to the blog, if for nothing else than this!

And that covers my hour! Enjoy.

Wow, what a confusing day at the podcast.  This will give you a hint…I had to totally remix i twice when I got to my own home recorder.  But anyway – I open with some Christmas music.  I play “I want the Mellium Falcon for Christmas by John Anealio of Scifisongs.blogspot.com.
My first article asks what laws of robotics should robots use.  I use a slightly offbeat answer buy asking what laws?!
Next is the first story of the afternoon.  Poul Anderson’s “Call Me Joe” pt5.

Earth Sky had some really good articles this week, from giant stars to galactic collisions.

Followed by Star Trek Trivia

I start the blog with my review of The Amazing Spider Man and my review is a bit less than stellar.  From there there are articles about what NASA has in store after the Curosity rover,   I think all were a bit disapointed with the release of Curosity’s SAM lab data, which is certainly not for the history books.  Wanna go to the moon?  well if you have a spare 1.5 billion you can according to start up Golden Spike.  and a Darwin should have been.

Finally In Plain Sight ep16 by Jason Kahn is our closing story of the afternoon!

Enjoy episode 343 of Beam Me Up

Well I was accused of going on at length with this week’s program, but there are always something that will set just about anyone off, and it just so happens that there were a few this week!  But all in all, I didn’t fall asleep this week, so I must have been interesting! I start off with a funny one liner that xnewsman sent in.  From there I have one of Family Guy’s segways that may not have much to do with science and fiction, but everything to do with supercilious public radio! If you can’t poke fun at yourself?  You know?  Mark Webb adds another story in his interstellar government functionary arc.  The Earth has been destroyed and the Humans that were lucky enough to be off planet are now only capable of the lowest form of menial labor…Mark Webb’s The Devil Wears Shapeless Ugly Garments, Covered in Dog Hair.   The Earth is far from quiet in space.  Not the spurious noises caused by man but the various other magnetic and electrical noises that are constantly emitted by the globe.  You will be amazed at what it sounds like! Earth/Sky again spins up with some fascinating facts about Pole Wander, which I had never heard about but it is fascinating.  From there I take us right into a new Star Trek trivia! This week’s review is the movie “Battleship” based on, of all things, the board game of the same name…oh yes. China has the idea that virtual supermarkets are the thing!  13 thousand square feet of empty racks filled with virtual goods!  I am serious!  And you won’t believe the company that has invested heavily in this idea….. Finally,  from the fertile imagination of Jason Kahn id the newest episode of In Plain Sight.  This week episode 13 “Home to Roost. These and other subject this week on Beam Me Up # 336

Another Week, and another episode of Beam Me Up. This week is episode 333! Plenty of stuff to get you thinking this week.

I open with Symphony of Science’s newest track. A very well done track called “We Can Change the World – Our Biggest Challenge” which deals with global warming.

As a tie-in to this song I read editor Kallamis’ rant on the lack of general understanding of even the most basic of scientific phenomena, in this case, the phases of the moon and the “new” moon in particular. It would be funny, if it weren’t so sad.

First break of the afternoon is a new episode of our telepathic detective of New Eden, Jack Garrett in episode twelve “The Fearful Dead” by Jason Kahn. Garrett’s world continues to get more complicated and even stranger and dangerous often at the same time. People are dying and something is feeding, but what….

And of course, what would a week be like without a visit to the Star Trek universe and two new questions this week.

Next from the folks over at the Earth Sky website report that scientists are rethinking the “goldilocks” zone where life might exist with liquid water.

Curiosity has uncovered evidence of liquid running water at some point in Martian history in the form of an ancient stream bed. This is great news for the proponents of Mars being a wet world at some point in its’ history.

This week’s review is a dvd of the move “Priest” which tries to be a lot of things to a lot of people. Motorcycles, stream trains, steam punk, big guns, vampires and much more. Is it as bad as it sounds? Well, catch my review…

For the final act of the afternoon…..part six of Ed McKeown’s ever so excellent novelette “The Dive” This week, plans are formed and set into action to hopefully stop the invasion of the horrific beings from the underworld.

That about winds it up! I think you will agree that this week is an excellent episode.
